Modern Love

hotel_gansevoort.bmp

According to trendcentral, the Hotel Gansevoort tops the HOT list in New York. I am SO over Spice Market. That restaurant's name has been dropped more times than a plate at Greek wedding!

So what is HOT? Anywhere that the Ronsons, Hiltons, Johnsons, and Sevignys are NOT!

Middle Of The Road

Saturday, I walking in the Village enjoying a lovely spring day, and I walked into the Marc Jacobs Store on BleeckerStreet. (I know there are two Marc Jacobs stores on Bleecker but this was not the accessories store!)

I found out that that you can pick up a Hillary Rodham Clinton silk screen T-shirt for only $55. If I can encourage both the fashionistas and the liberals to wear them, then this would cause quite a stir this summer during the Republican Convention! Can you imagine Sofia Coppola and Al Franken wearing the same designer duds?! Whoa! I think it's the end of the world as we know it...

March 30, 2004 An update to this post...The New York Sun reported today that the T-shirts will no longer be available after this week.

Some Kind Of Wonderful

jossstone.bmp

I have been diggin' on the Joss Stone CD for a few weeks now, and I gotta say that I really like it. Sixteen-year-old English girl Joss Stone has the chops to blow away many of the current pop divas out there. Mariah can stay at home, Whitney can stay in rehab, and Christina can put on some clothes!

Joss has soul, and The Soul Sessions prove it. With production from the Roots and backing vocals from Angie Stone and the legendary Betty Wright, there was no way this debut effort could go wrong!

April 6 Update: Joss Stone will be performing at the VH1 Divas Concert on April 18.

One World

Lately, I find myself saying "It's a small world" a lot because New York is a really a small city with many social circles. Now, whenever I meet someone new, there is usually some connection with a friend or a F.O.A.F. (friend of a friend)! So I was really curious when I picked up "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell. I found out that I am a bit of a "Connector". What does it mean? I think it means that I know a lot of people, so if I piss off a bunch of you then I may have to go into a witness protection program!

In related news...look out for The Roots new album dropping this spring, The Tipping Point Sessions.

Shop Around

Another news flash about Halcyon in Brooklyn...They are opening a shop in DUMBO in May!
Announcing....

DUMBO, Bklyn at the corner of pearl and water streets under the Manhattan Bridge 2 blocks from the F train at York St.
They will be stocking vinyl, CDS, DVDS,dj gear, magazines, books, clothing and other select objects of desire with new releases and merchandise arriving weekly! Yay!

Dr. Feelgood

Brooklyn Congressman Major Owens has written a play about Viagara. When I read about this "Viagara Monologues" on the cover of the Sunday New York Post, I was shocked! When I lived in his district a few years ago, I even went to a fundraiser for his campaign. Now I want my money back.

I have no intention of judging the 67-year-old Congressman attempt at fame or artistic pursuits, but I really believe this type of theatrics is better left to people like Larry Flynt or Felix Dennis

Who Stole The Show?

As counter-programming to the whole Manhattan St Paddy’s Day festivities, I went out with my friends in Brooklyn. First we grabbed dinner at Henry St. Ale House in Brooklyn Heights. They have a turkey sandwich with apple and brie that is just divine. Then we caught a cab to Southpaw to see BoySkout and Brassy. The bands started late, so we had time to kill, and my friends suggested that we stop by Café Ma on Bergen St. The lounge is cozy and cool, and they make delicious and exotic cocktails, like a Bubble Tea with vodka. After one round of drinks, we head back to Southpaw to enjoy a great show. BoySkout is a girl band with a Joy Division sound and I highly recommend getting Brassy’s latest CD, “Getting Wise” . It’s funky!

Brass in Pocket

Have you heard of Brassy? Do you live in a cave? Brassy is a quartet who play pop/hip-hop/punk! Lead singer Muffin Spenser and the gang are playing tonight at Southpaw. My friends and I are going and we plan to "Shamrock" and roll! I hear that tickets are $8, so you can enjoy a few beers and concert with change to spare!

It Ain't Easy Being Green

My buddy Sean Murphy from Murph Guide has spent countless hours preparing this document which is the St. Paddy's Day Bible for drinking, dancing and debauchery. So grab a shamrock, and go!

Eat It!

Did you know that McDonald's delivers up in Harlem? I found out when a delivery girl erroneously ringed my buzzer of my apartment Saturday morning! Obviously, she had the wrong address, and I directed her to peddle that Egg McMuffin elsewhere. By the way, how lazy do you have to be to have McDonald's delivered to your home?! The closest one to my apartment is one block away, but you'd have to travel some distance to get a good grocer with fresh fruit and veggies. No wonder obesity is an epidemic here in the United States. France's Marie Antoinette was rumored to say, "Let them eat cake"; and we Americans "Would you like fries with that shake?" Funny, huh?

I am anxiously waiting to see the Sundance award-winning documentary, SuperSize Me, which will open May 7, 2004.

U-G-G-L-Y You Ain't Got No Alibi

You Uggly! Thank God it's over! It has been officially declared that the Uggs boots are so last season. Please stop wearing them! I have never understood the craze for boots that make your legs look like elephant trunks. You have been warned by the fashion cops. Spring is on our doorteps, so break out the kitten-heel flipflops or the yoga sneakers. Cool! Washington Square News

Express Yourself

I am so shy about promoting my own events which is pretty silly, but I gotta do it! I am tooting my horn to say that I came up with either brilliant or asinine idea to hold an open-mic for bloggers. So here it goes!

The Yellow Rose of Texas

What's Next? If you’re looking to get the hell out of Gotham, you can check out the SXSW in Austin, Texas next week. The good music you won't hear on Clear Channel will be featured at this indie festival. Some of my favorites artists are playing like Stiffed, Andrew Bird and Har Mar Superstar.
The music portion is from March 17 through March 21.

Your Body Is A Wonderland

When that adorable John Mayer penned that luscious tune, did he have Tom & Sally’s delicious products in mind? You and your “fun buddy” can get your “Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory” freak on with stuff from this small Vermont business based in the heart of Howard Dean country. Tom & Sally's Handmade Chocolates has Chocolate Body Powder, Edible Tattoos, Sweet Body Paints and Heart-shaped Belgian Milk Chocolate Thongs. Whew! I am getting a sugar rush just I am typing this posting. Sweet!

Dinner at 8?

I spent Friday at Natchez, which was supposed to be lovely dinner with my friends and their parents who were visiting from Manchester at a new Cajun place in the East Village. Well, after a laborious two-hour wait and having two rounds of watered-down vodka cocktails, we left. Then we stopped by one of old favorites, Supper. It is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. The staff is superb, and the food and wine are divine! We even saw a member of the Strokes hangin' out with a petite blonde and some other friends.
Supper is located at 156 2nd Street between A&B. Even if there's a crowd, you can always enjoy a glass of Cupertino at the wine bar next door! The bartender is the best!

Ex-Boyfriend

Ok, I am thinking good karma and abundance will drop in my lap because I am giving "props" to my ex-BoyFriend. He's a great guy! His scavenger hunt business, Watson Adventures, is being featured in two articles today. There's a cool article in the Weekend section of the New York Times. Plus, he's representing L.I. with an article in Newsday. Soon they will be writing about me!
