The March Nichelle Newsletter Podcast. Find out where to go and what to do from Monday to Friday all month long!
Stopped by two Oscar parties in Harlem last night...
I ate two chili dogs, nachos and Twizzlers at one party that has a big screen TV and TiVo. Then I ate strawberry and kiwi at the second party where there was wine and an Oscar Pool.
I only mention what I ate because one party was hosted by two gay men, and the other was hosted by two straight women. Can you guess who served the junk food?
Overheard at the parties:
Joan Rivers looks more and more like Amanda Lepore
Renee Zellweger's next role should be Betty Boop
Jake Gyllenhaal is hot!
I won! [the Oscar Pool] Now I have lunch money
Sean Penn's drunk
Don Cheadle should have won
Mickey Rooney's on the death watch
From Whitney Houston's "Crack is whack" to Naomi Campbell's surprising honesty about her old coke habit...Why is Diane Sawyer on the diva beat?
Diane also asked Naomi about that leftover from Fashion Week the "Naomi Hit Me... And I Like It" T-shirt. [Sounds like a good story for Naughty Spanking Stories 2 from A to Z . Yay! RKB]
Ohmigod! If I could turn back time (about 9 months) so that I was unmarried with a baby and a baby's daddy than this woman would pay for my wedding. Thanks to an article by THE Lynn Harris in Salon, I now know about this craziness!
But is Reid, who is single herself, really promoting marriage, or weddings? Or, for that matter, her forthcoming novel, which just happens to be called "Marry Your Baby Daddy," and is conveniently due out in September?
Miss Reid wins the award for a Brooklyn author's most shamelessful promotion.
The nerd in me has a google alert on Suzanne Boyd, who is the Editor-In-Chief of Suede magazine. Suede is one my new favorite titles. [Giant is my second fav] Today I found out that Time Inc is putting Suede on hiatus after its April issue. I AM SO BUMMED! WTF?!
Update: Even Gawker is nonplussed. More: FishBowl puts in their two cents.
Joy Sewing from the Houston Chronicle is bereft.
Another podcast... this one is about worms and light touch service. This is fun! Read about the ban on seks toys in Alabama.
The podcasting gospel of Adam Curry is this month's issue of Wired.
Nichelle Newsletter has gone audio! Check it out....This is my first one so please check it out! You can add it to your iTunes.
How do you celebrate two years of marital bliss? You invite friends over for a wife- beater party. R & J on Avenue C invited friends and family over Sunday night. Guests came in from the snow, took off coats and sweater to reveal white T-shirts. Then the Sharpies came out, and artistic pursuits were the enthusiastic theme of the party. Instead of asking "What's you name?", people asked "Can I draw on your shirt?" It was fun! The Sangria was great, and iPod had a lot of Prince tunes.
Last night, I went to Climax! [It's not what you're thinking.] It's a bar on Ave B that has an identity crisis. There should be NO velvet ropes on Avenue B, unless it's some fetish party or something. This is not Chelsea or the Meatpacking District. I spotted Quddus from MTV's TRL there. [Watch all the kids find my site now!]
Another bad idea... Skittles BubbleGum. You bite it, you chew it and then you want it to disappear.
Tuesday, I stopped by Tom and Jerry and took a few pictures. This is the bar where I met my Italian sweetie so I was feeling a little nostalgia.

RACHEL KRAMER BUSSEL
and NICHELLE NEWSLETTER present--
Here's the recap: RKB and I were the coolest at flubbing the names of the readers, but I think people liked us anyway.
PETER DUFFY read from his fascinating book, The Bielski Brothers.
JASON KERSTEN read from his book, Journal of the Dead.
GIULIA ROZZI read a funny story about a Little Ceasar's mascot.
KELLI DUNHAM read funny blog posts and a childhood story that may have predicted her fate.
It just happens that Kelli is also a comic, so I ask her come up from Philly in April to do Chicks and Giggles.
One of the best. nights .ever. I just left Joe's Pub after seeing my favorite local band, The Lascivious Biddies play. You can listen at their podcast. They now have a genre! It's cocktail pop with a twist. I think that the girls should have a cocktail named the "Biddy". They play all their favorites and did a fantastic cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Fire".
And I was in heaven because two bar stools down from where I was sitting was Andrew McCarthy. Ohmigod! I shook his hand when he left with a woman and said, "Great!" Little does he know (unless he reads this) that I had the hugest crush on him after seeing in "Pretty In Pink" back in the day. Plus I am wearing the "pretty in pink" suede ballet flats. I have had two Stoli Raspberries with tonic and I am on Cloud 9.
Later...I met Adam Curry!
A call for sweet submissions: Please send me cupcake haikus to cupcakestakethecake@yahoo.com
We (RKB, B-Muse and I) will be putting up selected cupcake poetry on the All Cupcakes, All The Time Blog.
The ‘WYG [WYSIWYG] was hilariously funny last night. The audience is absolutely fabulous, and the talent was amazing. Who knew that people who blog have so much bad seks? From bad threesomes, crusty socks and biblical cold sores, it was all BAD. I think I heard the worst of the worst, but wait until next year!
I am already looking forward to the next 'WYG in March when Maccers, Eurotrash and Chicks and Giggles favorite Giulia Rozzi will perform.
A little bit of blogf@cking goes a long way…
I wanna give a shout out to Liza from Culture Kitchen for her wonderful blog love-in. [Yoko Ono would be proud.]
If you have not seen it yet, go check out AfroPunk, the documentary about the Black Punk Scene. It’s will be screening this Thursday at Baruch College. The stories are riveting and the music is great.
I love this band, Hip Hop Hoodios. The Hip Hop Hoodios are a Latino-Jewish Urban Music Collective. Any band who have a great sense of humor and talented is a winner in my book. Their Full Length Debut Album “Agua Pa’ La Gente” will be available online at Amazon on March 1st. You can download an mp3 of their tune “Havana Nagila” on Amazon today.
Foofi, Foofi Alert! Next Tuesday Thursday, there will be a party celebrating Public Enemy next Thursday, February 24 at the Crash Mansion. It’s all part of a Tisch School of the The Arts tribute to their hip hop classic “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”. The party jumps off at 8PM with an open bar of free caipirinhas from 8:00-9:00pm. [I love that the invite gave me a definition of the drink. Duh!]
A caipirinha is the national drink of Brazil, made with Cachaça, crushed lime, and sugar
A big hug and kiss to our very creative cupcake baker, B-Muse, for these cupcakes. They were orgasmic... Speaking of O's, later in the evening there was a special screening of a p@rn movie, "Big St!cky Tits".
Here's Yummicoco commentary on Big St!cky.
The Hot and Tasty party was a blast. Girly and I enjoyed welcoming out guests with toys, lingerie and cupcakes! Thanks to all the friends and friends of friends who came out to Lava Gina last night.
This morning I walked down to Harlem Meer to take some pictures of The Gates. You can see more pics at my Flickr.
Last night, I went to PowerHouse books for photographer Tony Ward's latest, The Best of Erotica. It's a shame I didn't bring a camera as I hung out with Alexis and Matt.
And since nobody reads blogs on Fridays anyway...here's a little vitriol.
P.S. Don't believe what those hussies over at Daily Candy wrote, Sunday is NOT "Cryday the 13th". [huh!] Come to the Hot and Tasty Pre Valentine's Day party Sunday night at Lava Gina. 7PM...116 Avenue C
Completely unrelated to the dead Bugs Bunny I spotted last Monday in Williamsburg, but here is the Nichelle Newsletter iMix. There's a lotta funky iTunes on it (including the new Beck EP) that may compel you to dance a little. Please take care if you suddenly start groovin' in your cubicle. Enjoy!
UPDATE: See the dead Bugs Bunny last week was a precursor to this.
I want tickets to see Neil LaBute’s next play, which will start this March at the Public Theater. “This is How It Goes” will portray an interracial love triangle that stars Ben Stiller, Marisa Tomei, and the wonderful Jeffrey Wright. I am curious to see how Ben Stiller steps up his acting game along Broadway veterans. [He's been phoning it in lately and collecting fat checks] I have enjoyed Marisa’s acting since she was Maggie on “A Different World”, and Jeffrey Wright is simply one of the best actors doing theatre today. The show directed by Geoge C. Wolfe will run from March 8 to April 10.
Today is the Chinese (Lunar) New Year and it's Ash Wednesday. I'm confused! Should I be partying or praying? Should I drink or be sober? Should I eat fish or eat fish? [I may get ashes to accesorize and join the parade down in ChinaTown.]
It's the year of the Rooster, and everyone with a dirty mind keep saying it's the Year of the Cock. Check out this ad for a party tonight:
So prepare your lunar asses for a very auspicious celebration indeed, ringing in The Year of the Cock. Special guest starlet DJ Billy
Pfeiffer has plugged our...party in his top ten list for the
ultrafabulous Next, and we're ready to throw down at what is already
known as the Supreme, the Deepest, the Holiest, the Cockiest House
Party on Hump Day: TANG.
Join Billy and me on deck tonight as we bob and weave through miles of
beats. C'mon down from 10-3 and celebrate deliciously.

50 Ave B. Lower Level
(Take the F/V to 2nd Ave. and hoof it to 4th St. and Avenue B; Or get
into a cab, Carol.)
I think Schlitz has become the new PBR. [Ask anyone who was at the Cellar on Saturday.]
For spring, Seafoam green is the new pink. [ I didn't even step inside a tent to figure it out, I just walked by a GAP.]
Pepsi's iTunes promotion is gonna make me abandon Diet Coke. [I could easily become a turncoat for a free song] BTW, iTunes hook-up of the day: "Shut Up and Make Out" by The Hazzards to "The Tide is High" by Blondie.
Check out these "girly" bands. They are making music to rock your sox.
You meet the coolest people in Kinkos...I saw Amanda Donnelly, bassist for all-girl band Poparoxi making flyers! They are playing a show this Friday, February 11 at Pianos.
The Color Guard will be at CBGB's 313 Gallery on Valentine's Day.
One of my favorites, the Lascivious Biddies, are playing February 16 at Joe's Pub, and check out their blog. If you are unfamiliar, the Biddies are a cute quartet that play a mix of jazz, pop and country. Snap-happy music is what I like to call it.
Doo-wop group, The Dansettes have a gig at Underscore on Saturday, February 19.
Week 2 of the Erotica Writing class...
They met at the Chocolate show, and the attraction was immediate. She is a young food writer from LA, and he owns a small bakery in Broolyn Heights. They left for her hotel room in Midtown, and anxiously kissed in the empty elevator as it sped up to the 27th floor. They were dizzy from eating rich truffles, and the taste of dark chocolate was on their lips. Once inside, they were bare. Licking and tasting each other was a dirty way to cleanse their palates after sampling confections all afternoon.
I was itching to get out and enjoy the warmer weather, so I strolled down 8th Avenue in Chelsea last night . Surprise! I see Martha inside Better Burger. We chatted about silly boys, rad girls, and ate air-baked fries and organic burgers. Then she headed downtown to a Tiki bar. I decided to have a frozen margarita at Blue Moon. Mike, the bartender, made very berry margaritas for me. Yum! Best Week Ever was on the TV screen when I left to go home.
Flyers are a good thing. This afternoon, a guy was giving out flyers at the corner of 23rd and 7th which was advertising an event at Cedar Lake (547 West 26th St). “Love Sucks” is February 14 at 8PM. Comedians Bill Dawes, Vince August, and singer/songwriter Don “Big D” McCloskey will perform. The admission is pro-singleton: $20 for singles and $50 for couples.
More Big D news…Don McCloskey will be opening for G Love and Special Sauce in a few cities in the Midwest.
Call in sick or call in "reality" tomorrow morning so that you can audition for "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart" Auditions will be in New York tomorrow.

One of the rules state: "You must be in excellent physical and mental health." [Rules are for pu55ies! Go try out!]
How does VH1 combine their love of recent pop culture history with racial sensitivity? You get "Black In the '80's" this week. It's February, you know!
My favorite talking head, Toure, was on board to wax poetic about Black directors like Spike Lee, Robert Townshend, John Singleton, Keenan Ivory Wayans, etc.
OHmigod, my favorite White Boy Don McCloskey who raps, sings and plays guitar was shown for split second doing a little pop-locking. [Again I ask...when is VH1 casting gonna give me a ring?]
Observation: what a sunny day...the weatherman says "abundant sunshine"
iTunes Hook-up of the Day: Joy Division’s “Warsaw” to “Only In Dreams” by Weezer.
I am curious about seeing the new off-Broadway play about Peggy Guggenheim “Woman Before A Glass” starring Mercedes Ruehl. [I loved her in “Married To The Mob”.]
The Niagaras are playing at Rodeo Bar this Friday, February 4 at 10PM.
