Above is a picture of the wonderful Little Brooklyn from the Mermaid Parade.  Her burlesque show, Starshine Burlesque, is every Thursday at the Rififi.

Privacy Strips:  Mind the gap and cover your bosom with these.

Gardenfork: Cooking and gardening vlog.

Stone's Throw: The Record Label for Good Hip Hop.

Don't forget AfroPunk Festival this weekend!

You Don't Have To Be A Star To Be In My Show

My clothing swaps are featured in an article on Psychopedia. The next one is July 15 at Madame X.

Disco Karaoke on July 15 at 10:30 at Bar on A. Marty and I are stepping up the game.

All About Us

I am in the USA Today, kinda.  Whitney Matheson of  USA Today's Pop Candy organized a "meetup" last Thursday of people who loves pop culture.  Click on the link and scroll down to see a picture of me. Plus I saw Lumpy and met his lovely wife Hilary.   Many of the pics were taken by the BVan.

BTW, I am going to the Food Network studios this week.   I will be in front of a camera and it will be recorded.  I can't say any more. Sweet!

Last week's Pop Candy meetup at Lolita went way better than I expected -- somewhere between 40-50 readers showed up to express their support, and everyone had a fun time chatting, meeting each other and debating Lost, Star Wars, The OC and assorted pop-culture topics

A dolphin dives into my cleavage for the Mermaid Parade! It was sunny, crowded and fun at the 25th Annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island. See photos from the parade on Flickr.

Trunk Fulla Amps

Vote for Lindsay's T-shirt slogan because I want to wear it during the douche days of summer! It was a nice afternoon which included window shopping and a stop in Chelsea to get some delicious cookies from the Treats Truck.  Look for the truck in the Lower East Side Friday evening.  It's perfect fare in case the munchies come early in the evening.

Speaking of cookies, I just got a very belated birthday gift that I love. (My birthday is in November)
In addition to a book, nail polish and cutesy band aids (?), I got SweetHoney DipChocolateBrownSugah.
That Carol's Daughter body butter makes me smell good enough to eat.

Plus, I met Whitney Matheson of Pop Candy tonight. She is super nice.  I also heard about a new documentary that will open this summer, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox.  It will be playing at Cinema Village in a few weeks.

Sugar Walls

Quite possibly the funniest stand-up bit I have seen all year.
I love Wanda Sykes. Thanks to Feministing for showing me the light!

Fame

Bookmark:  DollyMix is  a Brtitish blog that really gets it.

Fame:  How famous are you? I am 1% famous.

Pedal:  If you love things with bicycles on them, then check out GirlsCanTell on Etsy.

Found Vintage:  I love the necklaces made by Samantha Tate  also on Etsy.

Baby, I've Got Time

Adorable:  Cakes and Babies blog.

Incredible: The line-up tonight at Chicks and Giggles' Anything But Stand Up. Show is at 8PM at Mo Pitkins and it is free!

Accountable:  A potential big client fell through for me at the last minute and now I am looking for someone who needs a  bookkeeper for one or two days/week.   Must NOT be flaky.  I keep nickels, not headaches!

Fun, Fun, Fun,

Never Too Much

The detritus of a cupcake picnic is a beautiful thing! We had a wonderful turnout of about 50 people at our cupcake picnic.  There were vegan subway cupcakes, mango margarita cupcakes, chocolate spice, pina colada, chocolate mint, peanut butter, carrot cake, red velvet, raspberry lemonade, and too many more flavors to mention.

Thanks to all out cupcake meetup members and friends for coming, and  a special thanks to Scott from Meetup for stopping by!

Capital G

K is for....Typography Bangle by Kap City

Last night after drinks in Midtown, I stopped by the second anniversary party of Etsy at the Etsy Labs, and ran into Kristen who is a friend  of friend who I have seen at a few house parties. She makes a mean trifle.  :) I also found out that she has an Etsy shop and she makes supercool typography bangles.

BTW, Cupcake bloggers will be getting crafty on July 7 when we will have a Cupcake Arts and Crafts Day at Etsy Labs.

What You Gonna Do?

Perk:   Cure a case of the blahs  by getting a box of delicious mini-brownies from Mari's. Mari is a friend of a friend who sent me a sample of  her six  signature flavors, which are Classic (w or w/o Nuts), Caramel Sea Salt, Coconut, Thai Coffee, Heat, and Blonde Bombshell.  The packaging is really nice and may be a great Father's Day gift and you can order online.

Bluff:  Nine years ago, I went to Martha's Vineyard with my cousin Imani for the very first time, and I have only been twice since. We stayed at a bed and breakfast in Oak Bluffs. We hung out at the Inkwell, ate fudge and partied one night with the "Black Bourgeoisie".  Now, MTV is doing a reality show about the  African American kids who summer.

Punk:  The AfroPunk Festival this year (June 29-July 7) will be huge! There will be  concerts (Philmoore Brown, Tiombe Lockhart) and a film series and a Q & A with founder/director James Spooner.

Just a reminder, about this Saturday's cupcake picnic at Central Park. Cupcakes Take The Cake bloggers, friends and meetup members will be congregating at 2PM at Strawberry Fields (West 72-73Sts).

If you cannot bring cupcakes,
bring beverages or bottled water,
picnic gear (insect repellant, blankets,parasols)
and a SMILE!

Bodacious Ta Tas:  If you cup runneth over, then you may want to shop for bras  at Bravissimo.  (via Ariel Waldman who I had a cupcake with on Saturday while she was in town.)

Boink Boink:  Check out Lux Nightmare's latest online project, Boinkology. It's  all about sex.

Curve:  For the girl who has plenty of them, then a shopping trip to Lee Lee's Valise may be in order. It's not for the skinny bitches, so only stop in if you are size 12 and up. (via Uffish)

What A Man!

Last night at the Paid Content Mixer, I met Joseph Varet of LXTV, and he tipped me off to David Hauslaib's hilarious commentary of his interview of Dan Peres, editor of Details magazine.

Flava In Ya Ear

Sample: There's a spicy condiment (not condom) tasting in Brooklyn on Saturday.

Seal:  In addition to Audacia's book, I highly recommend Helen Boyd's She's Not The Man I Married and
Jessica Valenti's Full Frontal Feminism.  All three books are published by Seal Press.

Selfish:  I am halfway done reading Bob Smith's Selfish and Perverse and I love it.  It's hilarious!

Sexy:  On the press line at BEA, I met Amy Reiley who is the founder of Eat Something Sexy.

Summertime

Some days are packed with activities, and Thursday is one of them.

I am going to the Paid Content Mixer and  I am very excited.  It is the HOT ticket for the techie/online/web 2.0 set, and it is sold out.  I woke up early one morning a few weeks ago to register online for the event,  so I am going.   If I had a Web 2.0 company,  tomorrow I would be selling it for 100 gazillion dollars while drinking sponsored [free] cocktails in a Midtown hotel bar.  But since I don't, I will pass around my business cards in the hopes of making new Twitter friends.

Sadly, I will miss the Leibya Rogers CD release party and show.  You must listen to her songs, and I hear that her "nipples taste like tofu".

Also, there's a book party for Death By Chick Lit, Lynn Harris' latest novel. RKB  interviewed Lynn on the HuffPo.

Hot Blooded

Nichelle's recommendations at ThisNext

Above are my latest recommendations on This Next.  I am kinda broke right now, but I finally found a lip gloss (Devilish from Laura Geller) and eyeshadow (Adore from Urban Decay) that I love at Sephora.  I will buy them eventually, but in the meantime I will hit up Sephora for a "live sample".

Reading:  Audacia Ray is reading  from her book,  Naked On The Internet tonight at Bluestockings.  This reading was listed today in the New York Times' UrbanEye daily email which is getting pretty hip.

Music:  The theme  for the inaugural Niche Karaoke show on July 15 will be Disco. Deal with it!

Pride:  Poetry vs Comedy and WYSIWYG shows will be hellafun and hellagay. Can you taste the rainbows?!

Hit'em Hard

Love:  This Sunday, June 10 is the 40th anniversary of Loving Day and the party will include BBQ, ice cream and music.

Picnic: The cupcake picnic is June 16.

Sing:  I will be hosting a new show, Niche Karaoke on July 15. More details TK.

Swap: On the same day,  I am hosting another clothing swap.

One Nation Under A Groove

Books:  I went to BEA, and ran into a million people I know.  Then I went to a book party for Bob Smith where there was no AC but plenty of cool people.

Bon Appetit:  Saturday, I went to a graduation party downtown at the wonderful Les Halles.

Blather: It's Sunday and I am tuckered out.  I read the Sunday Styles of the New York Times and noted two articles, "Lower East Side Is Under A Groove" and "So Sweetie, I Quit to Bake Cupcakes".
First, the Lower East Side story seems a little dated since the transformation/re-gentrification of the neighborhood has been happening for years and it seemed to be a way to make developer Sion Misrahi seem like a hero.  However,  one of his former employees, Steven Gluck was convicted for harassing Marcia Lemmon, a Community Board 3 member who opposed the bar scene in the LES.  Gluck was arrested in 1999 and convicted in 2000.  I know people have short memories, but you gotta wonder if Misrahi has people at his real estate development company who intimidate the residents and small business owners of the Lower East Side who don't fit with the vision of high market retail, restaurant and rental area.  Also,  I must say that the author of the article lives in the Lower East Side, and I think that should have been disclosed.

Second, the article about people opening cupcake bakeries as  a second career is great.  I just wished they snagged a quote from either Allison, Rachel or me instead of Eater LA. No offense to other blogs, but  we are the "google of cupcakes"! If you "google" cupcakes, Cupcakes Take The Cake is number 1!

The Sweetest Thing

The Other White Meat:  Open Art Studios in Bushwick is this weekend.

Something Fishy:  Sushi demonstration and knife sale at  The Brooklyn Kitchen (616 Lorimer St) on Monday June 4.

A Hamburger Two Days Ago: After a client meeting, I treated myself to a late lunch at BRGR (7th Avenue near 26th St, Chelsea). The bacon cheeseburger that I had was great!  The bun is a soft and tasty that I could eat on its own.
