Monday night I attended the Time Out New York Eat Out '07 event, and saw the lovely Laren. I nibbled on spicy watermelon salad,  mini salmon croquette burgers, yellowtail "pastrami", red beet and goat cheese gnocchi.

Tuesday afternoon I stopped by  the OMMA conference and got a free T-shirt from Snap Snots

Running In The Family

Right Now

CW Now is a new 30 minute entertainment show on the CW that covers trends in fashion, entertainment, technology and work.  The interesting thing about this show is that it is commercial free. The show is sponsored by Wal-Mart.

Some of the  cutting edge trends mention is the premiere episode:

And of course, there was a fashion segment featuring the stylist from CW's "Gossip Girl".   CW Now is a pretty cool show.  I am impressed the format and the information provided.  More entertainment shows should go with a commercial-free format because people like me would watch and not use the remote during commercials.

Race Riot On The Dancefloor

Tonight I did something very hipster-nerdy.   After watching Chicks and Giggles Hell's Angels and eating Cheddar Waffle Fries with Gravy at O'Lunney's , I dragged my friends to the Apple Store at 59th and Fifth Avenue to see Spank Rock perform.  It was fun!  However, I just don't really understand what "Shake It Till My D!ck Turns Racist" means.  It's the chorus to Spank Rock's song, "Race Riot On The Dancefloor"  that really had the crowd going.

I have never seen so many kids dancing in what is essentially an electronics store.  Even if the hottest jam was pumping out of every stereo in a Best Buy, there would only be a head nod or two.  However this is the Apple Store in New York City, and there was a party going on without booze or bouncers. This concert was the last of their midnight shows  which have  been going on all summer long for FREE. Gotta love it!

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

Eat:  The Third Annual Vendy Awards are next Saturday, September 29, at Tompkins Square Park.

Treat:  Get a Vosges d'Oliva Bar and make a fancy panini!

Something About You

More From MDP, originally uploaded by candiedyams.

Another picture from from MDP.

Lately I have been obsessed with British pop groups from the 80's like Level 42, Thompson Twins, Scritti Politti. [Note: I am old.]

A Little Respect

USA! USA! USA....Rachel is quoted in USA Today about cupcakes.

Number #1: The Budget Fashionista is tops in traffic for all fashion blogs.

Cheap:  Housing Works (126 Crosby Street) is having an Open Air Book Fair on Saturday, September 29. Books, records, CDs are only $1.

BTW: I will be appearing on the Food Network special, "Heavyweights", on September 29.  Check your local listings.

Lastly, it's like the Container Store for condoms: Devine Toys.  Get one for the next time, Madonna!

Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)

Smooches:  If you heart Brooklyn Girls, then party with them this Saturday at Southpaw.

Amped:  I don't go to clubs much, but there's an after party for Bjork/Klaxons/Santogold show next Monday (September 24) and it's Santi's birthday.  Maybe I will brave the foolishness of velvet ropes and bouncers and party. Plus Spank Rock will be there. Yippee!

Ohm: Going to OMMA next Tuesday; will be hanging out at the Exhibitor's Hall picking up swag.

Kill Time: Watch me read poetry on stage. Thanks Angel!

Orange Crush:  It's autumn. I started wearing harvest colors already.

From the Mixed-Up Files of WTF:  Aretha Franklin wants Halle Berry to play her in a biopic. That is like Michael Jordan asking Emmanuel Lewis (Webster) play him in a movie.

Lastly, when did the term "ish" crossover to Gawker? I blame Tionna.

Much More

I have been using Gmail since April 2004, and today I got a warning that I am near capacity.  I am at 95% of the 2902MB allowed for the free account.  I love gmail, but I am not purchasing more email space.

Another Saturday Night

PicnicParty.091507_CroquetCrew, originally uploaded by onikasi.

I left before the croquet match broke out.

Anyway, Saturday I went to a party in Prospect Park that got broken up because of the park po po. Then we moved the party to the backyard twenty blocks away.  At the next party, there was a stripper, grilled corn and London Broil. I was in heaven!

The guy in the middle of the picture of is on two episodes of the Food Network specials, Heavyweights.  I may be on an episode as well talking about  Hostess snackcakes.

Hip Hop Is Dead

I have a vlog crush on Jay Smooth.  Check out the Ill Doctrine.

Swap: My clothing swap, Fashion Week Hangover, is Sunday at 7PM. Clean your closet.  Swap clothes. Drink a cocktail.

Coney Island Day

It's a rainy cloudy day at the end of summer, and I am feeling a wee bit melancholy.  I found this video of a song by the lovely Deidre Rodman of the Lascivious Biddies.  By the way, the Lascivious Biddies will be playing at Mo Pitkins on Tuesday, September  25 and Carolyn Castiglia will open the show with jokes and a rap.

Gimme More

DSC_9560, originally uploaded by brianvan.

Saturday, I went to the Art Parade in Soho, discovered the Cueto Project in Chelsea and sipped Clementine vodka in the Upper West Side.

Sunday, I did the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer walk, watched the New York Jets lose in a crowded sports bar and enjoyed a lovely tea party in Central Park.

Later, I twittered the VMAs.

My Love Is Like...Wo

Okay, so I got up, threw on my red and white polka dot dress and went up to Bryant Park this morning to try get into the Tracy Reese show for Fashion Week.   I did not get in, but I had fun people watching. As I stood outside, I saw a lot of celebrities and fashionistas walking inside and outside the tent.  There were tourists  who didn't know what was going on, but waited outside patiently with their cameras anyway.

Who do I see? Ivana Trump, Mya, Andre Leon Talley, Star Jones, and my favorite Tim Gunn. Patrick McDonald was there and he appeared to be actress Julie Newmar's "walker" as he escorted her inside the tents.

What to wear?  As far as trends go, everyone is wearing various shades of gray including silver and pewter. Electric blue patent leather is also a favorite.

What's a blog? I saw Scott in action taking a picture of a stylish woman on her way into the show. Then I said hello to Nikola who was also snapping photos.  Girls dressed as flight attendants was passing out Jezebel barf bags.  Right before I left, I saw Najwa who is covering Fashion Week for NPR's Day To Day.

It's Not Over

Last night, fashion and technology converged at the HP event, Your Life Is The Show.   I attended as press for AllBusiness.com.  It was a fun event where there a laptop skin fashion show, and appearances by snowboarder Shaun White, model Petra Nemcova and tennis star Serena Williams.  There was plenty of booze and party appetizers.  I especially likes the fig and sausage skewers. One of the party attendees was former congressman Harold Ford Jr.  He told me that he is now teaching public policy at Vanderbilt  University.

Then I caught the end of the Fashion Tribes  Fashion Week Party at Tecasan.  Later, I stopped into Toad Hall and ran into Jose of The Fame Game.   He told me that he was in the neighborhood at Deitch Projects after attending the book party for The Warhol Economy.

When Pigs Fly

Blue Pig, originally uploaded by dirtystylus.

Yesterday, I stopped by the Blue Pig ice cream shop in east midtown on 43rd Street and had a generous scoop of black raspberry ice cream. It was super yummy, and there's also a Blue Pig in Brooklyn Heights.

On Saturday, September  8, there will be a fun event for charity, The Ice Cream Run.  It's a scavenger hunt and ice tasting. Proceeds will go to Children For Children which helps underprivileged kids in New York.

Participating sponsors include  Labratorio del Gelato, L'arte Del Gelato and Blue Pig.

Also, I am walking (I stubbed my toe) Sunday at the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 5K. Please donate! I am trying to raise $250. It is tax deductible.

What I Like About You

Mad:  Yesterday, I watched a marathon of AMC's "Mad Men".  I love it!  One of the actors look very familiar to me  and when I read Michael Gladis' credits, it said that he starred in the Fringe Festival play, "Dog Sees God".  Three years ago, I saw the play with Michael Gladis starring as Charlie Brown.

Add:  White Lies Black Sheep to the list of movies to watch out for this fall.  AfroPunk director James Spooner's second film will screen at the Toronto Film Festival.

Rad: Tim Gunn from Project Runway has new show, "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" and his lovely co-star Veronica Webb is one of my favorite models and style icons.

Glad: Who is ready for the fall?! I am.
