File this under: "Oh No She Didn't!"
Remember back when Stephanie Klein was just a mere mortal New York blogger and her first taste of fame was when the Guardian The Independent syndicated portions of her blog back in July 2004?
Well two years ago, I posted this in response to a blog post of hers.
The Blogoisie. Interesting people. Tech-savvy people. Media darlings? Now we're getting press across the pond. Greek Tragedy was featured as the "Queen of the New York Bloggers".
I don't really have a problem with it since there's no competition. I
met her a few times and found her to be really nice. However I have a
bit of issue with a statement she posted.
"It's like seeing a black person at a Dido concert."
Black people (myself included) like Dido. I bought her first CD about 3 years ago. Greek Tragedy,
we SO gotta hang out more. I have eclectic music tastes ranging from
Dido to Sleater Kinney, Fishbone, Mary J. Blige and The Beautiful
South. I am so not asking people to be PC on their blogs, but once it
gets put on full blast to a newspaper, a red editing pen might be
necessary. [especially the ones from that movie, Secretary]
Anyway, I just finished reading Stephanie Klein's Straight Up and Dirty, and in it she mentions this "Black people at a Dido concert" thing AGAIN. Taking in the full context, her comment is a comparison that seeing redheads is as rare as seeing the aforementioned "BPAADC" anomaly. I totally disagree with the rare redhead thing especially in New York City, since I know at least a half dozen redheads. I know two Matts, a Diana, a Brandy, a Carla, a Chris, an Alice and probably even more. Maybe it would be rarer to see a redhead at a Dido concert!
About the book, I found it hard to read because each chapter would go back and forth between her time with her husband and her time as a single divorcee. It seemed like there were two books fused together but not neatly. I felt that humor was forced and she violated the rule of three and alliteration was overused.
