Chicks and Giggles Ticket, originally uploaded by nichellest.

I am so busy that recaps take too much time.

Chicks and Giggles did the Black Comedy Experiment on Saturday, NYU on Monday and we have a show tonight at Ochi's Lounge.  I would post pictures of the comedians but I would take care of the red eye on the pics first.

SXSW:  I am not going, but many of you are.  Nate from Bricabox has created a party wiki, SXSWHere.

Art:  See beautiful stained glass work from artist Joseph Cavalieri this Thursday at Gallery 24
(111 Front Street  #220) in DUMBO.  I will be there!

Clothing Swap: March 9 at Greenpoint Church of the Messiah. I am not organizing, but I plan to swap.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Coincidentally, March 1 is International Women of Color Day. Show at 7PM at the Tank in Tribeca.

Monday March 3 Chicks and Giggles is kicking off Women's Herstory Month at New York University with a show at the Kimmel Center. FREE!  Check out the Facebook event or email me to RSVP at nichelle AT chicksandgiggles.com  Speaking of Facebook, become a Fan of Chicks and Giggles.

Lastly, we are going to Roanoke, Virginia for a show at Roanoke College on March 14. In the meantime, there are shows every Tuesday at Ochi's Lounge at Comix. Come and get your giggle on!

Girls, Girls, Girls

A week ago, it was my birthday. Here is a picture of some of the lovely and funny friends who came.  Fellow Birthday Girl Carolyn has a fun set of photos on Flickr.

Chicks and Giggles
is tonight.  You Fa-la-la down with laughter as Jess Wood, Becky Ciletti, Rena Zager, Lisa Kaplan, Jen Dziura and  Adrienne Iapalucci bring the jingles and the jokes!

Notorious B.I.G.

Thought: What if there was a hip-hop-centric social bookmarking tool named no.torio.us.?

Yesterday:  I had a pre-birthday brunch, and then walked over to Papa Bubble  on Broome which is not  your grandma's hard candy.  The passion fruit candy is delicious!

Now: Today, I got word that I am featured in an article in the latest issue of Shattered Magazine. (I will scan it in as soon  as I get it) The interview was nearly a year ago, so I have no idea what I said.

Next:  This Next is featured in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Tomorrow:  My birthday. Carolyn's birthday.  Chicks and Giggles show/party

Game Is My Middle Name

Art: I have an artists postcard that I got at AGAST last month. that I had been using as a bookmark, and I really like the artist's work.  Check out artist and poet Joanne McFarland.

Vote: For Matthew W. Caldecutt for Alley Insider People's Choice.  See this is how works, if he becomes famous, then I will get rich and/or famous and then he can die.   It's win-win!

Show: Tonight's Chicks and Giggles is a special one with ukeleles, characters and a surprise guest.

Gift:  A perfect shirt from Locher's for my friend who is not a fan of les enfants.

What Cool Breezes Do

What's cooking:  The Professor (of WFMU fame) just launched two blogs, The Audio Kitchen and The Radio Kitchen.

What's keeping: Me. Check out my new header/logo on Keeping Nickels, designed by Shawn Hollenbach.

What's happening: My birthday is in exactly three weeks away. Whoa!  This pretty necklace is what I will probably buy for myself.  (via TechYum)

What's doing: Since I am not above asking, you can help me celebrate by coming to Chicks and Giggles on November 27 or donate to my beauty fund with a gift certificate to Sephora.  Since reading Beauty Confidential, I need a ton of products to keep me looking young.  [Black does crack...eventually]

Spiegeltent, originally uploaded by Ania_*.

I am happy to announce that Chicks and Giggles will be a part of Spiegeltent at South Street Seaport at Pier 17.  Spiegeltent will be in New York from August 3 through October 1.

Say What?!

Spiegeltent! Spiegeltent! Spiegeltent!

Spiegeltent is a huge, elaborately decorated tent made of mirrors, cut glass, velvet and brocade, and is essentially a transportable 320-seat concert hall. Ross Mollison, who produced “Slava’s Snowshow” off Broadway, and Vallejo Gantner, the artistic director of Performance Space 122, are bringing one of the tents to New York. This tent, built in Belgium in 1926, is one of the original Spiegeltents.--New York Times

Chicks and Giggles' show will be Monday, August 14 at 10PM. I am so excited! Plus great musicians The Ditty Bops and Las Rubias del Norte will also be performing  in August.  Gothamist's moveable feast of new bands, "Moveable Hype" will also be there in September.

The Line-Up:

Stand-Up From:
Michelle Buteau (Comedy Central's Premium Blend)
Rachel Feinstein (Comedy Central's Premium Blend)
Jess Wood (HBO's Def Comedy Jam)

Music From:
College Humor's Mindy Raf

The Long Tail has got to be one of most successful online publicity campaigns this year with Flavorpill and Typepad giving the book a push. Hats off to Chris Anderson, since I think I see "The Long Tail" in my sleep. Tonight I am going to a party for the book, but first I am going to hear Toby Young at Housing Works.

In other news, Chicks and Giggles was super last night! The show was packed and we had a great group of talented performers.  Here's a blurb from writer Felicia Sullivan:

I had the best time EVER last night; the ladies were SO FUNNY!!!
Thanks again for the invite, I’ll definitely be back!

I also stopped by "The Beauty Queens of Comedy" show last night at Rififi, and what was weird that I was recognized by a guy who saw me more than two years ago when I first did WYSIWYG. [I guess that was a memorable performance!]

BTW,  it's super humid.

GOT MILF

Once upon a time not long ago,
when people wore pajamas and lived life slow...

On Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Laugh Lounge, the first Chicks and Giggles show was hosted by Ellen Lloyd and featured Carolyn Castiglia, Jeannie Dean, Liz Maher, Abby Rosin, Jenny Rubin,Tasha Space and Jill Twiss.  Since then the show squatted for six months in comedy club on the LES, then resided in the basement of an Indian fusion restaurant for a year in the East Village, and now Chicks is living large in the small bar aptly named Sadie's Lounge at Mo Pitkins on Avenue A.

Chicks and Giggles was an idea I came up with when I first moved back to New York City after a brief stint in Atlanta. At first the goal was, if anything, to entertain myself at night while I toiled away at a Midtown consulting firm. Then I saw the need for a place for women to perform and network with others to perform and produce shows. Two years later, I have a great co-producer and host Carolyn and a community of comedians, women, performers, actors, authors, moms, MILFs,musicians and all-around good folks who come to the show every week.

Come Tonight to our very special "Got MILF" because without the mothers...where would we be? [Happier, more well-adjusted people, but without good comic material :)]

According To Plan

Chicks and giggles 4-18-06

Before the amazing Chicks and Giggles show, I stopped by the RES party at Movida in the West Village. Movida is the darkest lounge I have ever been to, and I totally recommend it for the clandestine hook-up. I got a copy of the mag which included this DVD with movie trailers, short films and music.  One of the tracks on the DVD is from that band with best name, "I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness". After Chicks, I walked over to Bowery Poetry Club to catch up with the WYSIWYG kids.  I missed the show only because I cannot be cloned (yet), but I heard Carolyn, Ron and Heather rocked it. Then many drinks were had by many friends at Slainte. It was nice night!

Elexa Vibrating Ring

Thanks to comic Jess Wood for tipping me off to some good vibrations at Tuesday's Chicks and Giggles show! The Elexa vibrating ring  is part of a line of Trojan products made especially for women's pleasure, and can be found conveniently at CVS or Duane Reade.  However, if you live in Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia---then you are ass out! It cannot be sold in those states. Attention "fly-over states" ladies: please write to your Senator and change this law immediately. This is another reason that I am so happy to live in New York. The girl on the cover looks like a disco queen from the 70's and you can "Xanadu" me any time with this product.

The Best Is Yet To Come

chicks and giggles collage

Hi! You may know me from this blog, or the cupcake blog, or you may have seen out and about in the East Village, Lower East Side, blah, blah, blah.  You may even have come to see Chicks and Giggles, a weekly stand-up show that I created about 20 months ago. Last night, the show was packed full of friends, comics, bloggers and strangers. It was easily the best night of Chicks and Giggles simply for the sheer volume of talent, laughter and love in one room.  What made it really special for me is that one of my old friends who knew back when I just kicking around the idea, got to see Chicks on a fantastic night. I kinda feel like I have matriculated and matured as a producer. We (me and Carolyn) have some special shows coming up and I am hosting one on Valentine's Day! Thanks for your support!

Instant Hit

Wow! Yay! Yippee!  Chicks and Giggles is mentioned in this week's New Yorker.  We are name-dropped as writer Andrea Thompson writes a review of the wonderful Mo Pitkins. I am so happy!

Come celebrate our press by coming to the Chicks and Giggles  tonight at Mo Pitkins.  Hosted by Carolyn Castiglia, The funny ladies will make you laugh: Raquel D'Apice, Michelle Collins, Karith Foster, Kelly Nichols, Adrienne Iapalucci, Correne Kristiansen, and Fiona Walsh.

Chicks and Giggles starts at 7:30PM and it is every Tuesday, so make it "recurring" on your calendar. Thanks!

Shiny Happy People

First off, Chicks and Giggles was fantastic last night.  Everybody rocked, and the Sadie’s Lounge was packed.  Carolyn took a break from breast feeding to be in the audience and chuckle along with the crowd.  Thanks to Thomas, our sexy bartender, who invited a few of his pals to the show.

Brian tipped us off to US Weekly party at Happy Valley. So Brian, Girly and I hailed a cab up to 27th Street to get some open bar action.  Michael Malice was there and we barely got to enjoy our free drinks and Halloween candy when suddenly the party came to an abrupt end at 10:20PM.  The ugly lights came on, the music stopped and I could NOT order another round of vodka tonics.  The coat check was $3 and we were not there even an hour. Is Jann Wenner a cheapskate? I felt a Grinch stole my buzz, so I suggested to my buddies that we go down to the Back Room before it’s totally over.
